A discreet personal safety platform, part of the Salvus App project, designed by survivors for people at risk.
Every day across the UK, thousands of individuals encounter abuse, violence, harassment, and hate crimes. Many incidents go unreported, evidence is lost, and victims are left navigating complex systems that were never designed around their needs, highlighting the importance of accessible technology in personal safety.

Every day across the UK, thousands of individuals encounter abuse, violence, harassment, and hate crimes. Many incidents go unreported, evidence is lost, and victims are left navigating complex systems that were never designed around their needs, highlighting the importance of accessible technology in personal safety.
Salvus is an ambitious research and innovation project exploring how accessible technology can serve as a personal safety platform to help individuals feel safer, preserve evidence, access support, and improve reporting pathways when they face risks of harm.
Rather than designing a solution behind closed doors, we are developing the Salvus App project alongside survivors, charities, public services, academics, and technology experts to ensure it reflects real experiences and genuine needs.
We are investigating how accessible technology could support people before, during, and after an incident by helping them to:
- Feel safer
- Preserve evidence securely
- Access support more quickly
- Improve confidence when reporting incidents
- Reduce the burden placed on victims
- Enhance communication between victims and support services
- Enable agencies to better understand patterns of abuse and hate crime
The project will prioritise accessibility, privacy, ethics, and user choice at its core.

Salvus is currently in its research and co-design phase. We are collaborating with survivors, individuals with lived experience, frontline professionals, and specialist organisations to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced when reporting abuse, preserving evidence, and accessing support through our personal safety platform.
By conducting interviews, focus groups, and research, we will pinpoint where current systems fall short and explore how accessible technology can offer safer, more effective solutions. All our findings will directly influence the future design of the Salvus App project.

We believe that accessible technology related to personal safety should be available to everyone. The Salvus App project is being designed from the ground up with accessibility as a core principle. This includes features such as Plain English, British Sign Language (BSL) support, screen reader compatibility, captioned content, and trauma-informed, neurodivergent-friendly design. For us, accessibility isn't an afterthought—it's fundamental to our mission.

We're looking to build a diverse network of partners to help shape the future of the Salvus App project.
Whether you're a support organisation, police force, local authority, university, technology company, legal professional, safeguarding specialist, or potential funder, we'd love to explore how we can work together.
If you share our vision of creating safer, more accessible technology through our personal safety platform for people at risk of abuse, violence, or hate crime, we'd love to hear from you.

There are many ways to support the Salvus App project. You can join our lived experience panel, take part in future focus groups, become a project partner, collaborate on research, or simply sign up to receive updates about this innovative personal safety platform.
Together, we can help shape a new generation of accessible technology that prioritises the needs of victims and survivors.
This creates a seamless transition to your registration form without overwhelming visitors with information.
